Sacramento COE Hosts: Restorative Practices: Skills for Creating a Restorative School Culture

More and more schools are turning to Restorative Practices as a viable alternative to the zero-tolerance policies often associated with high suspension rates and challenged school climates. Many educators are asking important questions about Restorative Practices:

What are restorative practices and how does it work?
How do we apply the concept in the classroom and the school?
How do we gain the critically needed “buy-in” of staff, students and families?
How do we ensure successful school-wide implementation?

This 2-day experiential training will answer those questions and more. Through the use of engaging activities, participants will understand how to integrate theory into practice. Participants will:

  • Learn about the principles and key elements of Restorative Practices
  • Understand the relationship between Restorative Practices and Restorative Justice
  • Gain skills and tools for leading restorative circles
  • Develop strategies for overcoming the challenges to effective implementation
  • Recognize the benefits of Restorative Practices and their positive impacts on school discipline, suspensions and overall climate
